PSI Audio introduces active bass trap AVAA C225 for home cinemas and small clubs

PSI Audio introduces a new addition to the AVAA family of active bass traps. The AVAA C225 delivers more power to accommodate applications with higher sound pressure levels, in particular home cinemas, small clubs, and studios operating at high SPL. The AVAA C225 can absorb up to 135 dB of pressure with its two 10-inch drivers. Apart from its size and power, it retains the qualities that have made AVAA a revolution in acoustics around the world: without requiring any tuning, it eliminates room modes in the spectrum from 12 Hz to 130 Hz as efficiently as traditional absorbers 40 times its size. The AVAA C225 can be controlled via an app.

High-power absorption for home cinemas, clubs, and studios

PSI Audio designed the AVAA C225 for applications with lots of energy in the low frequency spectrum. Home cinemas need that intense low rumble to optimally support the pictures of high-octane action movies; clubs make people dance with that energetic thumping of electronic kicks. To fully enjoy these bass-fueled delights, they must be projected concisely, and that is where the room often interferes. Room modes prolong certain frequencies, until the kick turns into a hum with no defined edges. The AVAA C225 counters these effects of the room, taking up much less space than equally effective porous absorbers would require, and not needing tuning like resonant absorbers do. The C225’s two 10-inch membranes absorb up to 135 dB of pressure – ensuring that the boom retains its power but never loses its edge.

De-rumbling the room: the AVAA principle

Room modes are one of the biggest challenges in room acoustics. Every room has them, no one wants them, but getting rid of them is very cumbersome and laborious with traditional passive acoustics. Porous absorbers take up a lot of space to be effective in low frequencies. The alternative resonant absorbers like membrane absorbers or Helmholtz absorbers can be effective at low frequencies, but generally only ever cover a very narrow band of the spectrum, to which they need to be tuned. The AVAA system, however, is effective in the entire range from 12 Hz to 130 Hz, and as efficient as a porous absorber 40 times its size. No tuning required, it simply does away with the room modes and clears up the sound in the entire room.

Swiss precision development and manufacturing

The Active Velocity Acoustic Absorber AVAA was developed by PSI Audio and is only available from the Swiss manufacturer. Like all PSI Audio products, the AVAA C225 is made to the highest quality standards. Every single one is calibrated in the company’s own anechoic chamber, ensuring perfect performance from every shipped device.
