Yamaha introduces DTX firmware version 2.0 with new sounds and customisation options

Yamaha introduces the new firmware version 2.0 for the DTX-PRO and DTX-PROX e-drum modules. The firmware update includes new high-quality kits and samples of Yamaha acoustic drums from the Recording Custom and PHX series. Version 2.0 also implements new sound and UI improvements, including natural kit resonance and adjustable pad dynamics. Through USB Trigger Link, a DTX900 or DTX700 module can be connected to a DTX-PRO or DTX-PROX module, making their exquisite sound library available to legacy kits.

DTX Firmware V2: new deluxe acoustic drum samples

Version 2.0 of the DTX Firmware comes with 30 new preset kits for the DTX-PRO and DTX-PROX modules. The new presets include all-new sample sets for Yamaha Recording Custom kits with their clear and cutting sound. The DTX-PROX additionally features PHX kits, adding their wide dynamic range and massive low midrange to the sound catalogue of the DTX-PROX. All kits have been meticulously sampled with minimal tuning or adjustments to preserve their natural character. Firmware version 2.0 also adds 30 new effect cymbal voices to the DTX-PROX library, including stacked cymbals.

Finetuning the DTXperience

The DTX firmware 2.0 also introduces a number of performance improvements. The Effect knob can now control the overall resonance of some of the new kits, adjusting the amount of resonance evoked in the rest of the kit when one part of it is struck. This lends an even more natural, acoustic feel to the playing experience. The new firmware also overhauls the dynamics to more accurately portray the player’s intention from delicate to powerful. New custom velocity curves can be used to tailor the dynamic response to personal preference for each pad individually. The natural variation for multiple strikes on a single pad has been improved, and a new option has been implemented to raise the pitch of some hi-hat models when the pedal is pressed hard. These improvements serve to get the DTX-PRO and DTX-PROX playing experience even closer to the performance of an acoustic drum kit.

Raise your kit to DTX-PROX level

The Yamaha DTX-PRO and DTX-PROX modules can now also act as expander modules via the USB Trigger Link function. A compatible DTX900 or DTX700 module can be connected to the DTX-PRO or DTX-PROX module, making the DTX-PRO and DTX-PROX sounds available without having to rely on a MIDI connection. This makes upgrading the sound of existing DTX700 and DTX900 modules easier than ever.
