Lake People celebrates 40 years of audio quality made in Germany

40 years Lake People, 40 years “Tools, not toys”, 40 years innovative technology for demanding applications. In addition to looking back on the successful company history, it’s worth looking into the future, as 2026 will have many reasons for Lake People to celebrate.

Professional audio technology since 1986

In 1986, Fried Reim founds Lake People in Constance, and presents the company’s first innovation that same year: the Phone-Amp V6 is the first decentralized headphone amplifier for recording studios. Next comes a whole host of products for discerning audio professionals, for example the first German 20 bit converter in 1991. This tradition of high-quality studio technology continues until today, as evident in headphone amplifiers like the G103, monitor controllers like the MC100, and mic preamps like the F355.

From the studio to the living room: Violectric

Following continued requests from the hifi scene, the brand Violectric is introduced in 2009. The approach is similar to that of Lake People: achieving the best possible transmission of audio through outstanding engineering. Violectric addresses home users with specific features and refined design: headphone amplifiers like the HPA V324, audio centres like the DHA V590-2, and phono preamps like the PPA V790. In the high-end segment, the Niimbus products mark the limits of what is technically possible.

Innovative technology for ultimate listening

Over the years, Lake People has developed technologies and circuits that are unique to the products from the manufacture. Its most renowned innovation is likely the Pre-Gain circuit, which allows tailoring a headphone amplifier to the electrical parameters of a pair of headphones. Other important, recurring features include the high internal operating voltage, the high damping factor, the purposefully limited frequency response, and the protective relays for powering the devices on and off. All these well thought-out developments make Lake People products safer and more practical. They never become an end in themselves, but always serve the quality of the listening experience. Fried Reim has compiled the expertise gained from his developments in his “Headphone Amplifier Cookbook”, which is available for free: The Headphone Amplifier Cookbook

The Lake People quality pledge

The excellent renown of Lake People and Violectric is rooted partly in the sophisticated technology, but also in the perceptible quality of all the products. Every Lake People device is developed in Germany and built by hand in the company’s own workshop in the Bavarian city of Gauting. Each and every one is being checked technically and acoustically, making sure that every product adheres to the Lake People claim to quality.

Development continues: upcoming “Tools, not toys”

Upon occasion of Lake People’s 40th anniversary, it makes sense to look back on the company’s history. However, it is equally rewarding to look ahead, as the future has a lot in store: the new, ultra-compact monitor controller MC10 has already been introduced at NAMM and ISE. The year of its 40th anniversary is more to Lake People than a chance to look back on its history – it is also a chance to add to it, as multiple products are already being prepared to launch.

Lake People audio – outstanding audio technology since 1986

Lake People has set standards in the audio industry for decades through the unique combination of innovative technology and brilliant engineering. Founder and head developer Fried Reim and his team have designed and continue to enhance a versatile portfolio of top-tier headphone amplifiers, converters, phono preamps, mic preamps and specialized audio tools. The product line encompasses three brands: Lake People for professional studio gear, Violectric for audiophile home applications and Niimbus for uncompromising high-end sound. Excellent quality and precision and the clear commitment to Germany as its business location characterize the company’s philosophy. The R&D department is situated in Constance, the production facilities are in Gauting near Munich. This serves to ensure that Lake People audio deserves the label “Made in Germany” as a seal of quality in sound and manufacturing. www.lake-people.de
